Chains
Chains are mechanical link assemblies used in power transmission to convey motion and force between rotating components. Their design allows transmitting torque and synchronizing motion in mechanical drives.
A typical chain design consists of interconnected links joined by pins and bushings, forming a flexible yet load-bearing connection. In some designs the contact surfaces are engineered for rolling contact, which reduces friction between the links during operation.
Chains are commonly manufactured from metallic materials with heat treatment to increase wear resistance; in industrial applications surface treatments are also used to improve corrosion resistance and extend service life.
